Chapter 14
Frank wanted to stay in the sweet little bubble that they had created for themselves. That's all he wanted. It was perfect, settled, and they had some of the happiest days in the cottage.
His daughter was happy and even he was, too. It was sort of happiness that could almost let him forget all of the bad things that had ever happened in his life. It helped him to forget about Elizabeth and all of the mistakes that he had made. That was how pure it was.
As soon as they were attacked by shifters though, Frank knew that their little slice of heaven was gone. He was supposed to be dead. His daughter was supposed to be dead. The fact that somebody had been sent to kill them, made it pretty easy to see that no one thought he was dead anymore, or at least the people that matter didn't.
A bigger problem than having to relocate was the fact that he didn't even know who was after him exactly. They really did have too many enemies and he could thank his forefathers for that particular complication on his plate. If they would have focused on peace more, maybe he wouldn't have to figure out a way to once again, keep his family safe from people that he had never even met.
All of that was to say that Frank had to get them out of the cottage. He had a sweet interlude with Amber, a quite surprising one that had completely taken him off guard, but now it was time to get back to the truth of things. He knew that Amber was going to be there for a little while. She was especially not going to be happy about it, but Annalise wasn't going to, either. Now that all of the secrets were out on the table though, maybe it would be easier.
There was also that small bit of Frank that was happy. His daughter had been away from the pack all of her life. She was not raised with her shifter family. She was raised with humans and that had given a lot of negative impact on her life, especially when it came to her shifter education. She had a lot to learn and now she would finally get to.
Frank had to think about some of the good, because it was devastating if he didn't. If not, it was just a heap of bad on top of that and that was the last thing that he wanted to look into.
Telling Amber and Annalise was even harder than he had imagined it to be. Annalise knew that there was a reason that they had to do what they did, they just didnât really talk about it. Instead, it was just one of those things, never talked about, but always known. Sheâd overheard enough, and Frank had gotten out a half-ass explanation to her anyway. Annalise had taken it in stride, though she did exclaim that she was going to miss the cottage.
